16 weeks later....

(This is not LO, but isn't this little girl adorable?)

In preparation for our shul's trip to Israel (which ended up not happening) we applied to renew LO's passport back in May. Here we are now SIXTEEN WEEKS later. Guess what we just got in the mail? Geez, they sure weren't kidding when they said that there are currently delays in passport processing.

(I am also amazed that I applied to renew both LO's passport and my own on the very same day. I receieved my passport 2 months ago. How the heck does that happen?)

Her Dad wants to bring her to visit friends in Costa Rica. I want to bring her to visit friends in Israel. I wonder which wonderful and exciting destination will be the first stamp in her new passport?

We're still waiting for our kids' passports, too. We travel in five weeks. Grrr....

I'm eager to hear which worldly destinations LO will be visiting to spread the exuberance! You should both always travel and return b'shalom.

Her dad? Now I'm confused.

Glad you got it though. When TikkunGer was waiting for his we had to finally go and urge them to expedite it, and that's in Canada. His took more than 2 months too.

AMM - When I spoke with the passport agency they told me they could expedite it for a fee of $60, so if you find that you are 2 weeks prior to travel and haven't gotten them, you can always go that route. Good luck!

RM - Thanks. It's always an experience with her no matter where we go.

Tamara - Her dad is my ex-husband. He gets to see her 4 days out of the month.

I paid about $70 to have my passport expedited (I needed an insert supplement because I was running out of pages). It took weeks even with the so-called expedited service. Luckily, I got it just a couple of weeks before my recent trip to Asia.

Nothing like a little red tape to make your day.

Just got your link from another post. Very interesting story you have, lulei demistafina.

The passport situation has been really slow lately. Anyone with a passport about to expire should begin the process immediately.

Did not know about the ex, he's never made an appearance here before.

But yeah, this is your government on Republicanism. They said government won't work, and they're out to prove it in the worse way possible. They Knew there'd be a crush of applications with all the new laws & regulations, and they hired 'dozens' of new staffers. When thousands were really needed. Hey if you ran a war this way it would be a debacle, right? Wait...

I love the fact that almost a year to the day of the new regulations going into effect they're still woefully unprepared, and then they delayed the implementation for needing passports for travel to Canada & Mexico, just to escape the huge (months long) delays. Me I renewed my passport 2 years ago, under the old rules. I saw this coming a long way off. Bush league laws and implementation & the standard level of incompetence we've grown to expect. Still it's a very good example of how things work. Or don't. Cheers & Good Luck! 'VJ'

While it certainly is an annoyance having to wait so long, I'm hoping it's because they're being extra careful versus an understaffed bureaucracy.

Wherever you go, have a great time!
